Bike to Close the Gap 2015
Bike to Close the Gap Celebrates its Fifth Anniversary
On Thursday, 18 June, Paterberg was the scene for the fifth edition of Bike to Close the Gap. Bike to Close the Gap is a cycling event to raise money for PC Solidarity, a project of Close the Gap. This project is committed to bridging the digital divide in the Fourth World, by collecting used computers from companies and refurbishing them. The donated assets are redeployed in organisations that help the most vulnerable populations in Belgium gain valuable IT skills to assist them in their search for work.
A successful edition again, where the organization was on wheels, the sun showed up in time and got the sportiest IT specialists from Belgium together to compete against the Paterberg. 177 cyclists participated, collectively clocking a total of 3,018 laps.
The day ended with a small award ceremony, where trophies – symbolically shaped as the cobblestones that make the Paterberg so challenging – were distributed to the man and woman with the most laps on the counter. The women’s honors went to Nel Courier from Centric with 21 laps and the men’s best went to Bart Adriaensen of KBC with 30 laps.
A last cobblestone was awarded to DNS Belgium, who has organized this event the fifth year running. Afterwards, everyone moved on for a deserved barbecue!
The companies that sponsored this edition, brought together more than 85,000 euros. A nice yield for Bike to Close the Gap! We want to thank these companies, and especially our gold sponsors, Proximus and Amon extra for their efforts.
